CRYSTAL CAVERN

Designing through organic inspirations

“Crystal Cavern”

Project completed in the year 2019, Year 1 Semester 2

The project brief was to gain inspiration from organic shapes.

Inspired by the natural repeating pattern of a leaf’s veins the “Crystal Cavern” amphitheatre was created. It has diamond elements that stack up to create a cavern like feel. The amphitheatre is most alive during the day as it plays with light and shadows.

The design process

Following the inward direction of the shape of leaves a more simplified form was created, a diamond.

Pulling out the diamond like shape and staggering them gave the design more depth. Thus, creating more dimensions allowed for more light and shadow play.

Study models

In the process of creating study models, the design was further refined.

Creating cluster and open areas for user experience

Experimenting on the balance of the structure and how the pillars will be best placed

Testing out how different widths for the pillars affect the overall structure
